The research activities targeted breeding and cultivation of vegetable crops in the Republic was laid down by the efforts of the famous breeder, Hero of Socialist Labor, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Honored Worker of Science Anahit Ananyan, on whose initiative the Republican Breeding-Seed Production Station was established in Armenia in 1949. Under the direct supervision of Anahit Ananyan, plant breeders created about 15 new varieties of vegetable crops, which were occupying about 90% of the total area allocated for vegetable crops.
In 1981, the Department of Vegetable Growing Technology of the Scientific-Research Institute of Farming of the Ministry of Agriculture of Armenia was merget with the Republican Breeding-Seed Production Station.
Considering the significant research carried out in the field of horticulture and successful introduction of the results of scientific work, in 1993 the Republican Breeding-Seed Production Station was renamed the "Scientific-Research Institute of Vegetables Crops", and in 1998 the Institute was reorganized into the "Scientific Center of Vegetable and Industrial Crops". Later, in 2004, the “Scientific Center Vegetable and Industrial Crops” received the status of a state non-profit organization, and in 2019 it became a closed joint stock company.
