Scientific Achievements

Over the seven decades of its existence, the Scientific Center has made a significant contribution to the development of agricultural science and production and to the ensuring of technical progress in the Republic. Large-scale work was carried out both in the direction of developing theoretical problems and in solving problems of practical importance, which brought great recognition to the scientific team both in the Republic and in a number of foreign countries.

New Varieties

For 70 years, the breeders of the Scientific Center have developed and released 148 varieties and hybrids of vegetable and melon crops, in particular:

54 varieties of tomato, 8 - cucumber, eggplant -16, sweet pepper -17, hot pepper -10, melon -6, watermelon -5, pumpkin -4, vegetable marrow -3, summer squash -2, beans -5, kohlrabi -1, broccoli -1, vegetable soybeans -1, basil -2, lettuce -3, physalis -1 and 1 variety of okra.

Vegetables varieties and hybrids released in the country, due to their high quality indicators, are widely used. This is evidenced by the growing demand for seeds and seedlings produced by the Scientific Center in recent years. Some varieties obtained at the Scientific Center were also released in a number of CIS countries.

The methods of clonal and micropropagation, which contributes to a significant reduction in the breeding process, are also used in developing new varieties and hybrids. Through the application of modern technologies, a number of varieties of tomato, pepper and cucumber was obtained, as well as new forms that are used by breeders as initial breeding material.

Modern technologies

The correct choose of a crops species and variety for specific natural and climatic conditions, the use of high-quality seed and planting material, and the correct application of cultivation technology are of great importance in obtain a high yield of vegetables. The development of precise technologies for the cultivation of agricultural crops ensures a differentiated and safe use of natural biological and industrial resources, high consumer-oriented quality of primary products and finished commodity.

The Scientific Center develops and offers farmers complex technologies for growing vegetables for open and protected ground, among them:

  • use of green manure plants and biological fertilizers,
  • introduction of reasonable norms and compliance with the correct terms for the use of organic and mineral fertilizers of local production and imported from abroad,
  • development of recipes for the processing and canning of vegetable crops,
  • molecular diagnostics of crops vegetable diseases,
  • in vitro micropropagation of vegetable crops.

The developed integrated technologies for vegetable crops cultivation contribute to soil condition improvement and increase of soil fertility, rise in the production of low-cost vegetable crops, and food security improvement.
