Department of Breeding and Cultivation Technology

The Department of Breeding and Cultivation Technology of the Scientific Center is headed by the Candidate of Agricultural Sciences Mrs Karine M. Sarikyan.

For about 73 years, as a result of breeding work carried out by a number of well-known scientists of the Scientific Center, 148 varieties of 18 vegetable crops were created, which are in great demand among the population and processing organizations.

Based on the specifics of solving the problems of agriculture aimed at increasing the sown areas of vegetable crops, the Department conducts a number of theoretical and experimental studies on targeted breeding and development and introduction of new cultivation technologies.

Along with breeding works, the bio-morphological and physiological characteristics of crops accessions are being studied and evaluated.

Taking into account the high level of agricultural risk in Armenia in the context of global climate change, the problems of creating drought-resistant varieties and hybrids and developing technologies for their cultivation in arid conditions are of particular importance.

The scientists of the Department have published more than 2000 articles and theses.
