The Department of Vegetable Crops Seed Production and Primary Products Processing is headed by the Candidate of Biological Sciences Gayane Martirosyan. The purpose of the Department is to organize scientifically based seed production of local varieties of vegetable crops, to obtain high-quality super-elite and elite seeds of local cultivars and hybrids that are in great demand, the products of which will be competitive in terms of yield and quality in relation to those imported from abroad, and also increasing production volume to meet the needs for vegetable crops cultivated in the country and contribute to effectiveness and food security of the Republic.
The Department conducts scientific research on study of an influence of various factors affecting seeds yield and quality, as well as on introduction of the modern cultivation technologies. The technological assessment, which is carried out under the guidance of Gohar Adzhemyan, is given to the introduced varieties of vegetable crops and varieties of local breeding. A number of new canning recipes have been explored and developed for varieties and promising lines of tomato, cucumber, sweet and hot pepper, pumpkin, vegetable marrow, melon, broccoli, cauliflower, okra. Test samples of the produced canned food are being evaluated on the appearance of the product, taste characteristics and biochemical data.
